Taller Salud
“The health of a people begins with the health of its women.”
Since 1979, we have worked to transform systems that advance the health, well-being, and full lives of women and their communities, while strengthening women’s leadership in service to Puerto Rico.
+45 years of service, grassroots organizing, and community advocacy
+100 women in our Community Health Promoters Network
+60,000 people assisted in the aftermath of hurricanes and other disasters
+65% reduction in violence within Loíza communities
Taller Salud’s feminist and culturally grounded approach integrates direct services, community organizing, advocacy and research, and narrative change to address the structural causes that create and perpetuate social inequities in Puerto Rico.
For women and their communities
Our Work
Four action areas transforming lives across Puerto Rico
Women & Health
We provide services and develop initiatives centered on health, gender justice, and the prevention of violence against women, youth, and girls. Projects such as Tu Paz Cuenta (Your Peace Matters), Community Health Promoters, and Afrocaribeñas (Afro-Caribbean) are part of the feminist movement that envisions and works toward the dignity, autonomy, emancipation, and freedom of women across Puerto Rico.
Community & Leadership
We strengthen community leadership by supporting communities in developing the skills and collective power to organize, take action, and respond to challenges, while creating solutions that address issues affecting their communities and Puerto Rico as a whole. Projects such as the Food Security Committees and disaster response groups guide our team in working alongside communities and provide ongoing support.
Peace & Development
We transform lives through our evidence-based violence prevention and intervention model, Acuerdo de Paz (Peace Agreement), designed for communities facing high levels of violence. Initiatives such as the Racial Equity and Healthy Masculinity Roundtable and La Tribu: Nuevos Comienzos (The Tribu: New Beginnings) are part of our broader efforts to build safer communities and advance a culture of peace rooted in equity and sustainable development.
Advocacy & Research
Policy advocacy is one of the most effective mechanisms for transforming systems and shaping public policy that protects the right to live with dignity and wholeness. Our work is grounded in the knowledge and evidence we generate through feminist and community-based research, which we make accessible to individuals and diverse stakeholders. Initiatives such as the Women’s Well-Being Index and the Eastern Region Roundtable for the Eradication of Gender-Based Violence are part of our efforts to transform systems and improve lives.
